The final showdown in Fallout New Vegas offers players several distinct paths to shape the future of the Mojave Wasteland. Siding with Yes Man triggers the independent storyline, culminating in the dramatic final quest titled No Gods No Masters. This specific path allows the Courier to reject all major factions, including the New California Republic and Caesar's Legion, to secure an independent future for New Vegas.
Securing Hoover Dam and the Control Room
Your ultimate mission begins at Hoover Dam, where a massive battle is actively taking place between rival armies. You need to fight your way into the dam's interior structure while avoiding crossfire from both factions. Once inside, your immediate objective is to locate the main control room to install the override chip.
Navigating the corridors requires caution as both NCR troopers and Legion legionnaires will treat you as hostile depending on your previous reputation. Utilizing heavy weaponry or stealth boys can greatly assist in reaching the objective safely. Inserting the chip grants Yes Man full control over the dam's power grid, shifting the balance of power instantly.
Activating the Securitron Army
After successfully updating the system, you must make a crucial choice regarding the dam's electrical output. You can choose to route the power to manually activate the hidden Securitron army bunker beneath the fort. Alternatively, you may choose to overload the power grid entirely if you prefer a fully chaotic independent state.
Activating the army provides you with an overwhelming force of upgraded MK II Securitrons to police the region. This decision directly influences the final slideshow and the long-term stability of New Vegas. Once the choice is finalized, you must head back outside to face the final leaders of the opposing factions.
Confronting Legate Lanius and General Oliver
Stepping out onto the eastern side of the dam leads you directly to the Legion's camp for a final showdown. You will face Legate Lanius, the terrifying commander of Caesar's forces who relies on brute strength. Players can choose to defeat him in direct combat or utilize a high Speech skill to convince him to retreat.
Following the resolution with the Legion, General Oliver of the NCR will arrive with his personal vanguard to reclaim the dam. You can use your newly acquired Securitron army to intimidate him into a peaceful withdrawal. If negotiations fail, throwing him off the side of the dam remains a viable option for completion.
The Birth of an Independent Mojave
With both military leaders neutralized or sent away, Yes Man will successfully assert absolute authority over the entire region. The quest concludes as the battle ends and the final narrative outcomes begin to play for the player. The Courier effectively stands at the apex of power, leaving the Mojave completely free from external rulers.
